This web page has been created for the purpose of teaching high school students the value of the idea that all history is a re-telling or a re-creation of an event or person. We attempt to do this through a look at the life of Sequoyah, a Cherokee who created the written language, a syllabary, for the Cherokee language. Not only do we want to teach students to be discerning researchers, but we also want students to gain an appreciation for the value of written language as a means to preserve the rich heritage of a society.
